Long Term Care

Long Term Care

Long Term Care insurance provides financial protection for persons who become unable to care for themselves due to a chronic illness, disability, or cognitive impairment, such as Alzheimer's disease. It is designed to provide coverage for necessary medical or personal care services provided in a nursing home or in the insured’s home. Long Term Care Insurance can help you keep your independence in a time when you need and want it most.

Long term Care insurance can help you protect your nest egg, retirement savings, assets and any other personal things you have worked hard your whole life to accumulate. As of now, the average rate for a private room in a nursing home is $181 a day, or about $66,000 a year, according to recent statistics. If the room rates reflect current annual increases in nursing-home costs, by 2021, when today’s 60-year-olds might need such care, the average rate will have risen to about $480 a day, or $175,200 annually. Besides the cost having a catastrophic financial impact on you, the care itself can have a major impact on your loved ones as well. If you do not have the funds to pay for Long Term care then your family will also be the ones to pay the price of not having LTC insurance. As much as we know our families will do all they can to take care of an ailing loved one, but can they afford to? Statistics show that many times a care taker will be the one to pass away before the ill family member….due to the stress and strain on the body.

Questions to ask your self:

  1. How long would it take at current long term care cost for your entire nest egg to become depleted if you had to pay for such services?
  2. If your family has to care for you….how will that impact there livelihood as well as income and health?
  3. Can your spouse physically handle caring for you? Example: Lie down in the bath tub one at a time and see if you can help each other up out of the tub, without helping yourself.
  4. Can you lift each other….every time you need to bathe?
If you don’t want to spend all your hard earned money to pay for the cost of Long Term care do you want give it to the Government to be eligible for Medicaid?
  5. Do you want to keep you independence and freedom to choose your facility to receive care or if you want to stay at home for Long term care?

Do the answers to any of these questions cause concern? Most likely the answer is yes. Then now is the time to get more information on specific plans that can meet your needs and budget before it’s too late to have the option of doing so.
